(d)(e)(f)(g) where he was surveyor of highways 1779 (h); during the Revolution he served in various militia companies (k)(m) which service is explicitly listed in his widow's pension application W 17,504.\n6. 7. He lived in Manchester, Vt., (e)(f) where he was freeman from 1782 (h). From 1778 through 1782 he served in various local militia companies (k).\n8. 9. Smith Purdy (d)(1), m. Tamson Mead (b). They lived in Rutland, Vt. (f).\n9. 10. Deborah Purdy, b. 1764; d. 4 Apr 1840 (a)(b); m. 25 Aug 1783 (b), Seth Pettibone, d. 25 Jan 1823 in his 75th yr (a).\n\nIn addition to these ten children of Benjamin Purdy, Walworth (1) lists a son Truman Purdy and the family history (b) names a son Thompson Purdy who is said to have gone to California in the Gold Rush. Since neither of these names appears in any of the Vermont militia lists (k) or in either the 1790 or 1800 census enumerations (e)(f), it is possible that these were grandsons rather than sons of Benjamin and Deborah (Smith) Purdy.\n\nAccording to Munson (d), Benjamin Purdy had six sons, as named, and four daughters, unnamed, who married respectively Samuel Sutherland, a Hickox and a Vanderlip.\n\n\\* The D.A.R. Lineage Record # 93331 states that Daniel Purdy was born 1752, died 1831, and that his wife's name was Martha White, born 1761, died 1847 (m). The family history gives Daniel's wife as \"Martha, daughter of John and sister of William Smith\", with dates for both parties agreeing with the cemetery inscriptions.
