{"page_1": " In the Revolutionary War, he was a Lieutenant in 1775, in the regiment known as the \"Green Mountain Boys\" and took part in the capture of Ticonderoga. His name appears on the rolls from 1775 to 1782, when the last promotion made him a lieutenant-colonel.\n\nHe was elected 2nd Lieut. at Dorset July 25, 1775, Seth Warner was Lieut. Col., Samuel Safford Major. He was one of fourteen lieutenants elected at this meeting (Vt. Rev. Rolls page 815)\n\nHe fought at the Battle of Bennington, August 16, 1777.\n\nWas at one time Lieut. Col. of a Regiment of State Militia largely recruited in Pittsford, Vt.\n\nBurlington records of 1778 show he was Commissioner for sale of confiscated estates of Tories and sold Ethan Allen a farm, 150 acres in Burlington, lands of William Marsh, a Tory.\n\nHe was one of the grantees for the towns of Middlebury and Panton, 1761.\n\nWas First Selectman of Rutland in 1777-1779.\n\nAfter the Battle of Bennington, Lieut. James Claghorn of Rutland counted seven bullet holes in his hat and clothes, (Crockett's History of Vt. Vol II page 143)\n\n*Was an associate of George Mitchell and was given permission to use his name in the collection of the Rutland Historical Society.
