Vermont Libraries Day!
Voted into law last spring, Vermont is celebrating its first official Libraries Day on Monday, October 19th!
Libraries—and the staff and volunteers who work there—are essential to our communities. They support literacy & education, foster social connections, encourage independence and creativity, and provide resources to people from all walks of life. They adapt to their community's needs: providing physical & online media, a path to genealogy research, support for hobbies such as cooking or crafting, free or discounted access to local parks or museums, computers & free internet access, programs & events for all ages, reference services, and a free space for people to come together.
“It means a great deal to Vermont libraries to be recognized with an official state observance! Libraries are notoriously shy about calling attention to all they do,” said Vermont Library Association President Amy Williams. “Among their countless contributions, libraries foster healthy and positive social connections. In our age of isolation and digital addiction, libraries provide a welcome alternative and community. Stop by your library and join the celebration on the first-ever Vermont Libraries Day!”
