Mead was a member of the Dorset Convention of September 25, 1776 and one of the committee appointed by the Windsor Convention in June of 1777 to arrange with the commander of Ticonderoga for the frontier defense. He was Colonel of the\nThird Regiment of Militia.\nAs settlement progressed, Col. Mead maintained a primitive ferry across Otter Creek until a bridge was built by keeping\na boat on each side of the stream. He also owned a tavern.\nRevolutionary War Service\nupon a\nVermont pay roll\nexists the\nrecord of a payment to\nCol.\nJames Meads militia for\n\"tours to\nTiconderoga in\n1777\".\ntheir\nThe state records also record that\n\"Col. Meads'\nRegiment rendered efficient service in scouting\nafter\nTories at\nsundry\nt1mes，\nand also in\nguarding such as were taken,\nsupposed to be enemies etc.\"\nHe was a member of the Dorset Convention of Sept 25, 1776 and\none of the committee appointed by the Windsor\nConvention\nin\nJune 1777\nto arrange with the Commander of\nLiconderoga for\nShe frontier\ndefense.
