{"page_2": " guard duty had expired • came.\nKnowing the duty of a soldier and\nleaving his post he continued his lonely watch without food till the morning of the third daline unfrequented place, informed by a boy who chanced to pass\nthat the army had marched for Virginia two days before.\nHe was so nearly exhausted from loss of sleep and by hunger that he gave his silver sleeve buttons for half a dozen small cakes the boy had in his pockets.\nHe started immediately to join his regiment\nbut was soon\nattacked by a fever\nwhich\nconfined him until after the\nlast great battle of the Revolution was fought.\nA sick\nstranger\nin a strange land.\nBut though destitute and among\nstrangers,\nthe patriotism of the times\nand the glorious\ncause in which he was engaged, procured him friends who nursed and took care of him until he was restored to health; when he rejoined his regiment as it returned triumphant from Virginia and was honorably discharged when the army\ndisbanded,\nreceiving for three years\nservices the dep-\nreciated and worthless money which was paid to the soldiers.\nHe was destitute of any means of support and was thrown upon\nand after working about at whatever he\ncould find to do\nhis own resourcestor several years, one of which was in the employ of the eccentric and wealthy Lord Timothy Dexter I Newbury 1388 he moved to Barnard, married.\nained until 1827 when he moved to Rutland\nhe returned to Hardwict. where they rem\nMass. where he was\nVt. where they\nresided with their daughter until their death.\nIn early life he was energetic\nyear arter he settled in ternard he had the mistortune\nbut the fifth to\nhave his leg crushed by the slipping of a tree from its stump and catching it, by which accident he was laid up for several months at the time of its occurrence and more\nor less for fifteen or twenty years after.\nThis greatly\ndiscouraged\nhim and kept him poor always.\nHe drew a\npension for two or three years but was afterwards defrauded out of it.\nRef:\nFay Genealogy\" by Orline P.
