Boys at Jacob Marsh's where some 30-40 men were osodialborough,\nthe Capts. were John Smith\nPeleg Sunderland,\nand the Lieuts.\nwere Sylvanus Brown and Benjamin Cooley.\nThis was in 1772•\nBENNINGION, Pg. 1582\nSILVANES BROWN\nwas on the Roll\nof Capt. Samuel Robinson's\nCompany at\nBennington on Aug. 16, 1777.\nBROWN:\nWe seem to have\nTWo early settlers by the name in the vicinity\nof CLARENDON\n(1) William\nBrown, Clarendon Census of 1800.\nThen\nover 45 yrs. and\nthus b. before 1755.\n(2) In\nSHREWSBURY, we find several BROWNS,\nalmost all b\n1755-1774 with fanilies indicating that they may bave around 1790 and b. nearer 1774\nthan the earlier date, One\nwas a WILIIAM.\nAny, or all, of them MIGHT be sons of WILTIAM of CLARENDON.\nAny of these might be the FATHER Of EDWARD D. BROWN Of\nCLARENDON,b.\n1819.\n(1) SYLVANUS BROWN, Green Mit.\nBOy,\nwho was at the Marsh affair\nIn Arlington In 1723, and an officer.\nHe would seem to have been at least\n21 vrs. old which\nwould place\nhis birth as around 1752.\nHe does not appear in the Census of 1800 under any spelling\nBUT in Pittsford is listed a SYRENUS Brown\naged\n26-45\nand also BENJAMIN COOLEY, over 45 yrs. and two or three more Cooleys.\ngoing to guess that our Edward D. Brown belonged to\nthe Clarendon-Shrewsbury family.\nAs I think the inquirer might run to a small financial outlay, I am asking Sed'y of State for following if they have them:\n(1) Birth of Edward D. Brown, 1819 (if it shows parentage)\n(2) Marriage of same, 1844 (if it shows parentage)\n(3) Birth of Mary Jadida Brown, Nov. 22, 1845.\nEven if all his comes to nothing, you may like the BROWN\ndata for reference files. "}
