Enlisted from New Hanfield Conn. in the spring of\n1776 as a private in Capt Wm. Taylor Buttells Co., Col. Sullivan's\nConn. Regt), and wrote acceding a battery at New York, the bank under\nwhich he was digging cannon on him joining his band and thus\non James Thornton served with him on the town of York six months. Enlisted\nin the spring 1777 served as private in Capt. Col. Rogers\nConn. Regt. Next service period months, enlisted 1778 served as\nprivate in Capt. Sheets Co., Col. Meade's Conn. Regt. for seven or eight\nmonths, enlisted in May 1779 as private in Capt Wm. Taylor's\nButtells Co's, Col. Bearnbaker's Conn. Regt. and was\ndischarged about new years 1780 at Independence, enlisted 1780 and\nserved four months as private in Capt. Bearnbaker's Co., State\nGuard. Settled in 1781 and served a town of his private\nin the Conn. State Bands.\nAfter the War, moved with his father to Ballston N.Y.\nwhere he lived one year thence to Hartford Co., Conn. in 1784\nhe moved to Poultney Rutland Co., Vt. where he remained until\n1804, thence to Castleton where he died April 11, 1838.\n\nRef's List, Poultney Vt by Ambrose and Riggs (1875) pg 268\nOld Conj Coll records of Castleton Vt (small book) pg 36 "}
