Page was educated in the comon schools of sutlaad, for a time was a student at the Burr Seminary at\nManches ter,\nvto\nHe was taken from school at the age of eignteen to assist\nhis\nfather in the bank and acted as clerk until 1849 when he was made\nCashier until 1866.\nAt that-time he became president of the bank and acted\nin that capacity until 1884.\nHe was one of the promoters of the Rutland\nschool systen,\na projector of the old rutland Acarlemy and one of the active\nsolicitorg of its funds.\nHe held all manner of local offices. He had a leading part in the\ncreation of our fire department and is remembered as foreman of the \"Nickwacketts\"\nstanding on the machine at a tournament and urging his men to victory.\nIn 1852-53 and 54 he represented Rutland in the State Legislature and\nagain in 1880.\nIn 1860 he vas State. Treasurer and held that office until.\n1866. In :1867 he wes elected Governor-of the State of Vermont and was\nre-elected in 1868.\nHe was active in the Congregational Church of last Rutland of which\nhe became a member in 1858.\nHe wes superintendant of the Sunday School in\n1868 and\nchosen deacon in 1871.\nHe was\nchairman of a building committee for\nthe present brick church which was built in 1860.\nthree things he excelled many; in tireless labor, in courage and in\nbenevolence.\nRef:\nShith and Hand nutland Co. mistory pE 922 to 924.\nEast Parish Cong.
