Library Collections, Services and Programs – Do you know what your library has to offer?
Whatever your needs are, the library has something for you, in a variety of formats: books, CDs, DVDs, downloadable audio and eBooks, magazines and newspapers, databases, large-print, graphic novels, and board books. We provide access to computers and printing, and online resources that are available to you 24/7.

Did you know we can borrow books from other libraries on your behalf?  Or that we have free wireless internet?  That you can book the meeting room for your next event? That we have eBook readers you can borrow? Or museum passes? The library is a great resource, if you don’t see something you need, just ask!

Programs are free and open to everyone. Childrens’ programs include story hours, summer reading, school vacation week events, music and movement for toddlers, and even reading to dogs! For adults and young adults there are music performances, films, readings, lectures, book discussions, and a foreign language club.

Everyone is welcome at the library!
The communities of Rutland City, Rutland Town, Mendon, Ira and Tinmouth support the Rutland Free Library through property taxes. Library cards are free to residents and non-resident taxpayers. Residents of other communities may purchase a library card to borrow materials. For a complete explanation please see our Get a Library Card page. For even more information, visit our policies page.

We are your community resource. If there’s something you don’t see here on the website or at the library, contact us. You can also follow us on Twitter or Facebook. There is a suggestion box and “purchase request” forms at the circulation desk, or inquire at the reference desk.

Our History:
The Rutland Free Library was started in 1886. Originally housed in various storefronts and at the old Memorial Hall on West Street, the library has been located in the old courthouse and jail on Center Street since the 1930s.

In 1965 an addition was built to expand the capacity. In 1990 a second addition was completed, making a total of 24,167 square feet available including meeting rooms, book stacks, reading rooms, administrative offices, and storage.
